Blog 46 - Monday, April 8, 2019

Sadly, Ms. Carbray's time with you will be coming to an end this week.
Ms. Carbray will soon be graduating from McGill, and becoming a teacher.

What advice would you give to a new teacher? Explain.

  1. First of all I would like to congratulate Ms. Carbray for being an amazing teacher. Her lessons were always fun and I really enjoyed doing her assignments and learning in her class. I don't really know what advice to give other than to continue what she is already doing. Making fun projects and work and generally making class enjoyable for the students. Thank for all you have done.

  2. Honestly I will miss Ms.Carbray so mu h because she was always so nice, she would show us different ways to learn, and her activities were always fun and no one can forget the hot chocolate bar. I do not think that I have any advice for Ms.Carbray because did everything perfectly fine and I always looked forward going to English class because I knew that Ms.Carbray was teaching.

  3. Ms Carbray you were wonderful!! Keep up the great work as a teacher and just remember that your students are humans and so do not be sad if they are all being wild teens some days. I loved your class and the activities we did very much and I am so happy you came back. I wish you luck for your teaching carrer even though I know you will be more than fine.

  4. Ms Carbray was by far the best student teacher that I have ever had. I hope that she will do well in the rest of her teaching career. My only advice I can give with my zero experience as a teacher is to keep on doing what she is doing, creating fun enjoyable assignments which most of the students enjoy.

Good Luck on the rest of your career as a teacher

  5. I have to say that Ms Carbray has done a great job creating unique assignments that are challenging but are a pleasure as well as controlling her class of rowdy grade nine teenagers and taking care of work. I have little advice but I think somehow putting more emphasis on getting work in class done and completing assignments would be good.

  6. Miss Carbray was an amazing teacher. She always had great assignments that were a challenge (and sometimes a pain in the behind) but however were intellectually-stimulating. The only piece of advice I can offer her really is enjoy what you do. By that I mean take in your years of teaching, cause they will go fast, unless you get stuck with a class composed of nothing but animals.

  7. Its sad to see Miss Carbray leave because she was such a chill and great teacher but, hopefully she comes back and teaches full time at St Thomas. Some advice that I would give to teachers is to not be so uptight. Most of the classes were im not doing very well the teachers are constantly asking you to hand in a bunch of stuff and they also give an incredible amount of homework. An assignment once in a while is fine along with a bit of homework on occasion. Students need to be free to do what they please when they get home not do a bunch of work.

  8. First off I'd like to say I'm very sad that Ms Carbray is leaving for the 2nd time this year. I would always look forward to going to english class because she is/was our teacher, she teaches properly, unlike some subs lol. For future references, I don't think Ms Carbray would need anymore teaching advice since she's already good at her job, other than keep up the good work ♥. She knows how to maintain our class even though ours is by far the most chaotic one she has, she also knows how to have fun with her students. Ms Carbray is such a positive, enforcing student teacher, she makes life happier. We'll miss you<3.

  9. I'd like to start my blog by saying just how great of a teacher miss Carbray was this year. She gave us a variety of assignments that were all fun but challenging in there own way. One piece of advice I could give miss Carbray is to not change the way she teaches because I think her students work best the way she teaches now.
    Great job Carbray!

  10. I feel like you should be more like mr.Katz and mr.dubois combined though you don't know mr.Dubois. Just note that you should not do homework and make the test something interesting that the kids want to do and not dread every time there is a test. Also some rough edges but I wish u the best of luck

  11. I'm very sad that Ms. Carbray is leaving again. She's such a great teacher and made english class fun and interesting. I think she teaches in a way that makes students want to come to class and she doesn't make it overwhelming like some of my other teachers do. I enjoyed all of the assignments that we got since there was a variety in them and none were nearly the same as the other. The only advice that I would give is to keep doing what your doing since we are all doing pretty well in english, we look forward to coming to class and we're having fun while getting most of the work done. Great job on teaching our chaotic class Ms. Carbray, we'll miss you!

  12. I just want to start off by saying that this has been the worst year when it come to amazing English teachers leaving, First Katz, now Carbray. With that out of the way, my advice for you to be a teacher is to just do what you did this year, you were sincerely an amazing teacher and I really sad that you are leaving. Another advice I have for you is that when the class gets a bit to "excited", you need to put them in their place.

  13. A lot of people probably say that they want teacher that doesn't give any work, but when you think of it it's not the greatest idea. You wouldn't learn anything and when it comes time to get a mark somehow, you could mess up on the one test you get all term and get a 30 on your final mark. I would say to be chill, like both Mr Katz and Ms Carbray and not overload but to still do something during class

  14. I dont have to give Ms.Carbray any advise i think she is a fantastic teacher and that she shoudnt change her work ethic. and if she really wants to be the best teacher she has too bring food alot because teens love food. I also think that she should follow in Mr katz footsteps because he is an excellent teacher and i think she has a lot of potential to maybe even be better than mister katz. Peace we will miss you!

  15. First of all, I just wanted to say thank you so much to ms Carbray. The advice I would give to a new teacher is to make learning fun. Just like ms Carbray. When you make learning fun, it’s interesting for the students to learn, and then information really goes inside there head. Also tips stay on top of your game. Being a teacher could get really stressful so might as well be ahead then fall behind. Other than that, enjoy your job! Because being a teacher is amazing!

  16. I want to thank, Ms Carbray for being such an amazing teacher. She made english class one of the only classes I looked forward to. It won’t be the same without her. Obviously, I am in no position to be giving advice to new teachers, be here we go. I’d say that you should make sure to keep the class/lessons engaging and interesting. Nobody likes a teacher who’s monotone and comes off as not wanting to be there; students like teachers who are lively, or at least seem like they enjoy their job. It’s probably best not to bombard your students with work they’ll never get to, but it’s still important to give them the kind of work and assignments that’ll help them learn and develop skills in class.

  17. Thank you Ms. Carbray for everything, you're an excellent teacher and truly a great person. You're return to St. Thomas was definitely a highlight this year. I and many others always looked forward to coming to English class and it definitely won't be the same without you.
My advice to new teachers would be to establish a good relationship with your class. Take the time to get to know each and every student in the class while also sharing some information about yourself. Always make sure to keep control of your class but at the same time don't be too strict. Often times many teachers will give out the same boring assignments. I would strongly recommend taking the time to plan out creative new lessons as a different approach to learning a certain topic. This makes the students a lot more interested and motivated to complete their assignments as well as hand them in on time. I think it's also extremely important to be enthusiastic and have some fun with the class. Lastly, please do not bombard students with work since we also have other classes that require us to do homework.

  18. I just wanted to start by saying that i think all of us are going to miss Ms. Carbray so much she’s been such an incredible teacher through out the year and I think I speak for all of us when I we had so much fun with her as our teacher. As for new teacher my only advice would be to make your class a positive environment for the students if they have a vibe coming to your class we will be much more pleasant to teach.

  19. Thank you so much Ms Carbray for teaching us, you're a great person and an amazing teacher!! Keep up your amazing work and honestly I don't have much advice to give, since you seem to have it all down packed. However, a word of wisdom never hurt anyone. All I have to say is that, although you are a teacher and you're responsible for teaching us students, they may also teach you things. Things that can't be found in books or tutorials, life lessons. Don't be afraid to learn from your students as much as they learn from you. Never give up a chance to learn, even though you're the one teaching.
After all that advice, thank you so much for teaching us, you really made this class standout amongst all the others. Another word of advice: come teach at St-Thomas! Good luck Ms Carbray and amazing job!

  20. I am so grateful to have had ms.Carbray be able to teach us. She was awesome, and really understood each and everyone of her students. The advice I would give to a new teacher (not that she needs it because I think she did everything really well) but I would say keep respecting the students. If you respect them, and understand them and how they feel, there can be a real connection, and they'll respect you. Students should not get a ton of homework in my opinion, and stressing kids out because you're mean or strict really puts a damper on enjoying the class. I'll miss ms.Carbray a lot, and she was one of my favourite teachers I ever had.

  21. Honestly, in all the year's that I've gone to school I've never had such a great student teacher. Normally, everyone in the class always hated the student teacher because they took the place of a teacher everyone liked. But somehow you managed to tame our class and even made us pay attention. Also, you somehow made English class fun and made it always feel like a free period even though most of the time we were doing work. You never gave us homework which honestly made my year so much easier and gave me so much more time to do other things. Knowing that you already pretty much amazing at your job my advice to you would be to have fun with it! We will all miss you very much and thank you so much for being such a great teacher.

  22. The advice I would give to a new teacher is to be an equal balance of kind and strict. I don't like it when the teacher is really strict and does not have a good side. And I feel bad for the teachers that get sucked up by the students and let them get away with things. For a new teacher I think that they should be able to talk with their students but also stand their ground when one is trying to take advantage of how nice they are. An Example is Ms. Bronizewski. I had her last year and she was phenomenal.

  23. advice i would give to a new teacher is to be nice and interested in their life and the things they tell you but to still keep a serious relationship, at the beginning of class ask them about their weekend but also know how to make them stop and do some work.
