There will always be laws that are questionable, however it is often easier to just do as the law says. I do not recommend going against any law. There is always a reason for a law to exist and unless your opinion is that of the majority it is better to play along no matter how stupid or redundant you may find it to be. Most laws are highly effective at keeping you safe, others are outdated but they should all be always followed.
I really liked your blog. I don't 100% agree with following every law under almost all circumstances, but it is definitely valid. Even though I don't completely agree, I follow the law, I promise.
I believe most laws was created with the idea in mind that it would make people safer of improve their lives. Though some laws may seem ridiculous, outdated or even stupid you should still follow them. Not following them could lead to you or someone else getting hurt because of it. I think laws can and should be questioned but never broken.
Really good blog. I agree that some laws are ridiculous and that we should have the right to question them but we still have to respect them, even if they're useless.
I believe that in Canada the majority of laws are set to protect citizens and keep order. Other countries have laws that do not help their citizens despite even having good intentions. I believe that some laws are questionable especially now that we have different standards and needs from the past. And maybe certain laws one day my be changed for the better.
Debatable. The laws that punish criminals for robbery, murder, assault and other crimes: Yes. The law that forces immigrants to go to french school without giving them a choice: No.
I think that laws are questionable, but not most of them some make sense but others don't such as these few laws that I searched up on the internet.
It was illegal for non-dark soft drinks to contain caffeine It used to be the case that Sprite, Mountain Dew and other non-dark soft drinks couldn’t contain caffeine, but that all changed in March 2010 with the advent of “energy drinks” like Redbull. Now you can have caffeine in soft drinks like orange and grape soda—but there is a limit, and it’s still lower than colas.
It’s illegal to build big snowmen in Souris, P.E.I. Souris, P.E.I., is well-known to summer visitors for its curious Singing Sands Beach, but few know of a local law that warns residents against building monstrous snowmen. If you live on a corner lot it’s against the law to built a snowman taller than 30-inches. Fear of Frosty’s revenge, much?
Don’t pay with too much change! While it won’t make you a law-breaker, according to Canada’s Currency Act of 1985, there are limits to the number of coins you can use in a transaction. Now that we’ve put the kibosh on the old penny, are you accumulating nickels? If it’s nickels, vendors can say no to any purchase over $5, while the loonie limit is $25.
These are all the strange laws you didn't know about posted by Lucy Izon, readersdigest.ca
Laws like the ones shown above should definitely be questioned why are you not allowed to build a snowman or why can u pay in change or maybe why dark color soft drinks have to contain caffeine these laws are laws you wouldn't think about any day. Though some laws like your not allowed to be drunk or high while driving or you can't go higher than the speed limit. Those laws are normal you think about them you are taught to follow them but not allowed to build a snowman seriously that is the dumbest law I have ever heard of. Anyway, I think that laws should be questioned just depending on what the law is.
It is a very nice blog Jason, however your site is vastly inferior to mine and maybe next time you can not write two lines then copy the rest of the internet.
Well to be perfectly honest, in my humble opinion, of course without offending anyone who thinks differently from my point of view, but also by looking into this matter in a different perspective and without being condemning of one's view's and by trying to make it objectified, and by considering each and every one's valid opinion, I honestly believe that the points you made were very valid and I completely respect them.
All laws are there for our protection, they were put in place for a reason except for some. Laws like "it's illegal to fall asleep in a cheese factory, in South Dakota" are unnecessary laws that maybe one incident happened to one person and they felt like it was vital to add it to the long list of laws. One very important law to discuss is the one where you are not allowed to marry another of the same gender which is very inconsiderate of people's opinions. We have all these unnecessary laws yet we have the most major one which isn't a law which is that guns are legal in the US. The only legal thing that doesn't protect us, should be illegal so it can protect us.
The laws are there to protect those who do right and punish those who do wrong. They are the reason that when you wake up and leave your house, you can be assured that there is a small chance that it will get robbed, and if it does, the law will make sure this criminal will end up behind bars. The laws in Canada are nearly perfect (I will explain my thought on why they are not perfect). There are some countries that will not ban the use of firearms but will not hesitate on banning a Candy bar. Even here in Canada, we have useless laws. For example, in Quebec, an immigrant does not have the right to go to an english school and can only attend french. A person, no matter what there background, should have the right to attend any form of schooling they want. A store cannot just have an english advertising poster. It must be french in big bold letters, and if you want, english in tiny letters. What are these laws trying to protect? I personally believe we could be okay without these laws.
Laws are made for reasons. Some people can't control the things they do. As a matter of fact, I do think they protect the citizens. In spite of the fact that some people don't appreciate them, they're there to protect everyone, most younger kids don't know these laws yet and might do the wrong thing but that's how we learn, from our mistakes, isn't it? There will be a punishment if a certain law is broken, it all depends on what rule you break.
I do believe to a certain extent that laws are made to protect citizens. Although there are laws in Quebec that force immigrants either into French or private school. This law is to protect the french language in which our province originated from. This law is not really made to protect the citizens. Most of our laws do indeed protect us as citizens. I do believe that laws are made for reasons and that we should definitely obey each and every one of them as much as we possibly can.
Laws are made to protect citizens. Many citizens do reckless things so these laws can help them. Yes there are some laws that are unnecessary and shouldn't be there, such as in Alberta its illegal to set fire to the leg of a wooden-legged man. Why does that even have to be a law? Who's gonna set fire to someones leg. Some laws are important and should be taken seriously such as drunk driving etc. Laws such as those are made to protect citizens and to make sure we don't do things that could get us killed or thrown in jail.
Laws are definitely for our protection, and if you're so against the law it's probably because you're breaking it. Some laws are really dumb, and it seems there only there because the government got bored and want to mess with us. Did you know that you can't bike with two ear buds in or you'll get a ticket. And when you're fourteen if you aren't wearing a seat belt you get points taken off so you can't start right away at sixteen to get your license. Also what's wrong with jay walking. In my opinion the pedestrian is always right.
I think that laws are there to protect citizens and to keep every from doing what they want all the time. By this, I mean that without laws, thieves would be able to steal and murder without any consequences. Even though laws are supposed to protect people there are also very strange laws that don’t have any purpose. One of these laws is that in Halifax, Nova Scotia, were taxi drivers are not able to wear t-shirts.
Well to be perfectly honest, in my humble opinion, of course without offending anyone who thinks differently from my point of view, but also by looking into this matter in a different perspective and without being condemning of one's view's and by trying to make it objectified, and by considering each and every one's valid opinion, I honestly believe that this was a great blog.
There are definitely laws out there to protect us from dangers. But I also believe that there are some laws that exist for reasons that we can't figure out. Some of the laws are to protect from dangers, cultural beliefs or even to stop people from seeing something that others that believe shouldn't be seen. I think that lots of people including society should help give their honest and respectful opinions on these laws before they are actually laws.
Most laws are made to protect citizens and most laws do protect us, but there are lots of dumb laws. We need laws there the rules we have to follow without them are world would be dangerous. We definitely need laws but i think theres a few we don't need like in New York it's illegal to wear masks in groups, with a few exceptions like Halloween.
Definitely, I believe laws do protect citizens as well as keep order and implement safety amongst communities. Without laws everyone would do as they please creating absolute pandemonium. The law also teaches people right from wrong demonstrating the consequences for inappropriate or illegal behavior. However exaggerated laws do exist. For example it is illegal to wear hot pink pants after midday Sunday in Australia. The thought of being arrested for wearing hot pink pants on a Sunday afternoon is outrageous and frankly hilarious.
Personally, it depends on the law. If it's like no climbing sky scrapers, witch a lot of people tend to do, that would be okay because thats the sake of their own safety and life. In of the presentations that in class they showed that Peppa pig is band. the fact that china banned that is personally ridiculous because it's a children's tv show about a happy cartoon family that shows no gangster activity. I find that that's questionable and its not really protecting anyone because it was never a danger in the first place.
some laws are completely stupid, unnecessary and are just put in place to make the government some money. but without some laws living would be chaotic. for example if you were allowed to go around and kill people that wouldn't be a very safe thing to do so thats why you aren't allowed to do that. in conclusion most laws are in place to keep people safe
I personally think that laws are made for citizens to be safe. What if u didn't have to stop at stop signs or there wasn't a speed limit, there would be way more accidents than there already are today. Obviously there are pointless laws like in Alabama, where it's illegal to throw confetti or spray silly string because it's referred to as a form of "littering". Without laws everything would be a mess and there would be many problem in this world. Even though rules are put in place, it doesn't mean that everyone is going to follow them even if it's for their own safety.
Laws are originally put in place for our protection. Although some laws just benefit the government like tax laws it is to help the government keep laws in place a stay running. Personally I think taxes are way too high, especially in Quebec, but in general laws are put in place to protect the population and our society. If we didn't have any laws and lived in anarchy out entire world would collapse around us, There would be blood running down the streets. We need laws to keep society in-check.
laws are typically set in place to protect us as citizens and keep us safe mentally as well as physically , for example life sentences in jail for things life murder, repeat offenders or other serious crimes. These laws are all essential to a proper balanced society in modern times, however not all laws were made to protect the public, some are in place for reason only beneficial to the government.
Obviously, there are laws that were put in place to insure people’s safety and well-being. Examples would include, criminalizing murder or abuse, theft, punishing offenders, speeding, and a number of other laws created with citizens’ safety in mind. Laws like those were instituted for the right reasons, but there are many laws that are more than questionable. In the american state of Utah, it is actually legal to marry your cousin, but only if you are both above the age of 65. Aside from the ridiculous, or laughable laws out there, other laws were primarily meant for the government to profit off of, or keep close scrutiny upon its citizens. For instance, in China, the internet is heavily filtered.
Most laws are in place to protect citizens but there is always the occasional dumb law that has no real purpose. For example, in Italy, a man can be arrested for wearing a skirt. This law doesn’t seem like it would benefit anyone, except maybe for people who are met with an odd discomfort when they see a man wearing a skirt. Still, I’d assume these people are very uncommon, and in modern times, people are beginning to be more open and accepting, so a man wearing a skirt wouldn't really be a problem. There are also some very important laws such as no drinking and driving which are definitely to help people stay safe. In conclusion, some laws are not to keep people safe but the vast majority are.
While in the long run, I think that most laws are meant and do keep you safe like you are not allowed to kill someone or steal anything, but there are always those kind of laws that are completely useless. There are laws so dumb that they should even be laws like in Alberta, it is illegal to sell non prescription contacts in a costume shop.
i think that some laws are stupid and can be changed, but i do strongly believe that laws are there to protect us. if there wasn’t laws on driving ages or drunk and driving then our world would be chaos, with 15 year old irresponsible kids driving drunk or high which can obviously cause accidents which can lead to death. i think that we just need to trust that they are there to protect us, obviously if a law is very unjust we absolutely should stand up but in my opinion, the police enforce those laws for our own safety.
Laws are purely created as guidelines and not concrete rules. For example if you are seen jaywalking you will not be stopped by police. The law was vrracre so that you don't put yourself in danger of death legally. Laws protect citizens from themselves and other citezens. Ex:murder There are definitely some questionable laws but they obviously all have benefits some laws I disagree with are seen as a great decision by people with a different perspective
If there were no laws then our society would end up corrupted. With no laws things like murder and robberys would happen more often and everything would be chaotic, if we had no law were we had to stop at red lights then there would be more car crashes and more deaths. Some of the laws we have today are dumb but at the end of the day, they were put there for a reason and as a society we have to obey them.
I believe that laws are crucial to our society's development. Laws help prevent a great deed of things, whether its theft, fraud, murder, violence etc. Without fare laws established I believe that are society would turn into a dystopian society much like ones that that you would read in a book or see in a movie. Why would mankind make laws if not for them to be followed, laws is to restore and maintain a just society. In other words yes I believe laws are there to protect citizens and even though some might be questionable, most of them are for our safety.
Laws our to keep our society from being corrupted and if there were no laws then it would be anarchy. Most laws are there for our own good and sometimes we don't even realise it. Of course there will always be laws that are ridiculous and some of them are even put in place so that more people get put in jail because jails some jails are profited from and they can make money but that's something I don't want to get into. In conclusion, like Chris said, it would make your life a lot easier to just follow them.
Without laws our society would crumble and the world as we know it would wither away as we quickly descend into chaos. Laws are without a doubt important but at the same time it’s important to know that they may be used to propelle the agenda of corrupt politicians. So that’s why it’s important to understand that laws can be used to protect us but also control us.

Of course there will always be laws that are ridiculous and some of them are even put in place so that more people get put in jail because jails some jails are profited from and they can make money but that's something I don't want to get into. In conclusion, like Chris said, it would make your life a lot easier to just follow them.
ReplyDeleteNice blog Kurt I agree with the point that sometimes laws can be ridiculous.
DeleteWithout laws our society would crumble and the world as we know it would wither away as we quickly descend into chaos. Laws are without a doubt important but at the same time it’s important to know that they may be used to propelle the agenda of corrupt politicians. So that’s why it’s important to understand that laws can be used to protect us but also control us.
