11 people died, 6 were injured.
It seems that every week there is another tragedy in the United States.
President Trump recommends that there be security guards in front of all schools and places of worship.
Will this alleviate the problem?
Do you believe anti-semitism is still present today?
Explain.

I believe that it is still a problem. I think having security guards in front of schools and places of worship is a bit much but I think it would solve the problem. It is not a bad way to avoid it but it is not the right way. No one should have to worry at school or wherever that there will be a shooting. Maybe he should concentrate more on making guns illegal than hiring security to protect schools and places of worship.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea I think that less guns could mean less shootings too. Keep up the good work!
DeleteI don't think they should make all guns illegal. I just think we should restrict the quantity available and that you should have to get a license to purchase one.
Deleteuuh hate to rain on your parade but the firearm used was fully automatic which is federally banned across the united states so it WAS illegal to own such a firearm and banning other guns is like banning all plants because poison ivy is dangerous.

Deletereplying to Chris's comment:
DeleteI do not think comparing fire arms to plants is a good analogy since plants have more benefits to life and are more essential as oppose to guns which we could live without. Also to take one bad example out of many good things is not really a strong statement because you could say computers are bad for your eyes but like what about all the other things also you rarely hear of someone dying from a computer unless they are actually dumb enough to play on a computer for like 48 hours straight with a lack of water and food.
great blog Angela. I agree i think security guards can help a bit bit they're not enough.
DeleteSince there was a shooting towards a synagogue obviously there still is antisemitism in the world and also there exists. Adding security guards does help alleviate the problem because most likely less people will be hurt but it does not solve the issue. I think taking away the tools that caused this act of hatred would have been a better proposal by the president.
ReplyDeleteyes i agree, less guns, less deaths
DeleteI believe that placing security guards at places of worship and schools will 100% help to at least reduce the number of shootings. It much easier to shoot unarmed children than it is to shot trained adults with weapons. As well as discouraging shooters they can stop them in the act therefore reducing the potential damage. Security guards are an overall good idea as they can help reduce the number of shootings and reduce the number of death for shootings that do happen as well as employ some people its a win win win situation. Though if the school or place or warship can not afford to hire security simply arm the teachers or the priests. It isn't the best idea but it will serve its purpose.
ReplyDeleteAntisemitism is still alive and well. Shootings left and right display this pretty well. People are scared which is not bad its just they get so scared that they shoot people. People are blowing each other up on middle eastern countries and people who are not well informed jump to conclusions and think that all middle eastern people are the same which is untrue. All of this leads to shootings, death, broken families and financial ruin for some who can't afford the medical or funeral expenses.
In conclusion don't shoot people because of their religion, race or nationality because you will be jailed for life or worse.
great blog cristiano! It is sad that antisemitism is still happening. I liked your conclusion
Delete*Inhales*
DeleteThe weapon used in the shooting that this blog was about was an AK-47 it is a terrifying weapon that fires 7.62mm rounds at fully automatic at 600 rounds/min all it takes is one of those rounds which can punch through even the most advanced bullet proof vest and glass out their on the market this would do nothing since private security guards are only allowed to own firearms accessible to the general public which means that anything illegally smuggled in like the AK-47 there was a reason that america lost the Vietnam war and you have the AK-47 and AK-74 to thank for that.
i think that this can very lightly help, but it will not solve anything. the hate towards someone else can not just disappear if you put bodyguards in front of buildings to protect the potential victims. it will not end anything they will just evolve but with better strategies that are quicker and safer for them.so in my opinion, yes antisemitism is still happening and the government isn't doing much about it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that by putting guards in front of these place will only make these attackers want to evolve, great blog!
Deletei agree, the guard will also just be one more person for the killer to kill
DeleteLet's start with this: adding a bunch of security guards to an area will not guarantee safety. We have security in imports, yet all the time you hear about explosions and attacks. If we can not protect to the maximum an establishment where thousands of people enter and exit through international borders, what's to say it will solve the problems with shootings at religious areas.
ReplyDeleteAlso, we technically already have " Security guards''. They are called police. We have plenty of those on the street, and even with them, we can't prevent violence.
I think the best way to prevent shootings is to put many restrictions on firearms. People will always find a way to get them illegally, but it would definitely reduce the quantity of firearms available.
Anti-Semitism is and will always be a major problem. Even before the second world war,the hate towards jewish people has always been present, from the crusades to the spanish inquisition. The only way we can stop the spread is through education. We have to teach future generations about different cultures so when they go into the real world, they won't be ignorant and fear other people.
I totaly agree with you like smuggly weapons to countries and how you can't prevent it in airports where there can be bombs and stuff everywhere security guards can't do anything
DeleteI definitely agree with you that having added security guards won't guarantee complete safety
DeleteI think it will never help. either you have a fat police or a skinny police guarding the place like elementary schools, secondary schools, religious places. It will not help but may even get worse. I know people might disagree but hear me out. If some guy decides to shoot a school elementary or secondary the police will have a gun and if you say he won't have a gun than what will he do yell at the guy to put the gun down that is not how things work. Anyways who will risk their life for a crappy job that pays you 11 dollars an hour. I you tell me that teachers and cops with guns patrol the school how many cops do you need and if they patrol in the school too the youngsters will see the gun and know what it is at the age of 4 or 5 that is what probably makes someone a shooter. This I maybe not make a difference but maybe cause it to happen more often. If a cop or a teacher doesn't save the kids but saves him or herself. The kid may grow up saying I hate school teachers don't even care about the kids they ran. They grow up shooting schools because of that one incident so I don't think this solution can do anything.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree that no security guard will ever risk their lives on a job that pays minimum wage.
DeleteI believe that putting security guards in these places will solve nothing, let me explain. Let me introduce you to Steve. Steve always wanted to be a cop since he was 9. Unfortunately he was rejected from the academy because the only part of the job is any good at is the eating of doughnuts. So the weapon used in the most recent synagogue shooting was some variant of the famed ak-47 this weapon is the most massed produced firearm in the world. It never jams, is durable, light and so easy a child can use it, and they do. This gun fires 7.62mm rounds the same size that is the go to anti personal sniper and can shred any bullet proof vest used by the armed forces at fully automatic. Now back to Steve with his 9mm semi automatic side arm and uniform full of jelly doughnut powder. He is being payed in most US states 7.25USD/hr do you think that Steve is going to risk his life for some strangers who he has nothing in common with?
ReplyDeleteThis has to be one of the most entertaining and educational blogs I have ever read.
DeleteI completely agree with you and Panagis. I definitely learnt something from this. Great blog!
DeleteSir, can we discuss this further in class because I believe that many of my classmates are heavily misinformed on the gun laws in the united states.
ReplyDeleteI believe that if Mr. Trump put security guards in front of church, the problem would only get worse because this would force the attackers to get bigger and better weapons which could kill more people. I also think that no security guard would try to fight someone that has a better weapon then them for 10 dollars so I think that the government would only be wasting its money. I also think that this attack proves that anti-semitism is still around because if the attacker accepted all religions he wouldn’t have attacked the place of worship.
ReplyDeleteIt's sad to hear that another shooting happened in the states again especially on a religious level. Donald Trump wants to put security guards in front of each place of warship and schools but shootings can happen anywhere. I think that he thinks by putting a guard in front of everything will scare of these attackers when in reality they're just going to get bigger and stronger until they attack again. You can't just stop someone from hating on another religion, it's highly impossible to do so. In fact by putting some sort of thing to scare them away it's actually going to make them want to attack even harder for the next time. Obviously antisemitism still takes place in our world today since this attack happened only a few days ago.
ReplyDeleteLoved how you elaborated Sierra, great blog!
DeleteAll these shootings and hate crimes really break my heart. I hope that all of this will stop as soon as possible, preferably right this instant. I don't think there is a way to 100% stop these crimes and have a complete solution. People who are demented enough to commit these crimes will just evolve to come over these obstacles. I do hope they will work though. Taking that extra step towards safety is always necessary.
ReplyDeleteI do believe anti-Semitism is still around because it is displayed through tragedies like this. I live in a jewish neighbourhood and went to a 90% jewish elementary school. I made some amazing friends there and became extremely familiar with the culture. It hurts so much seeing that anti-semitism is still around because through tragedies like this, I get worried that something like this will happen to someone close to me, one of my friends or anyone at all. It is still a very real problem and I hope to see it go away.
I agree, there is not a 100% way to solve the problem but there are things we can do to prevent this from happening again, which is to just ban guns or at least get rid of the ones that are causing the most problems (like the AK-47 and AR-15).
DeleteCan you imagine living in a country with a president who would much rather have people risk their lives for every single school and place of worship? President Trump recommends that there should be people who have to risk their lives every single day while they only get paid x amount for 1 hour, which is completely not equal compared to what an actor gets paid. Not only is not equal but places of worships and schools are not the only places a shooting can happen. It can literally happen anywhere, meaning that President Trump would have to get a security guard for any public place in the United States, which is impossible. I don't believe that what the president recommends doing is right and it will definitely not alleviate the problem.
ReplyDeleteSadly, anti-semitism is still present today and I'm sure that the person who committed the crime against the Jewish people is not the only one who would do that. It's crazy how unbelievably ignorant and prejudice people can be in today's society.
I very much like your point of view for the guards, this thought didn't even cross my mind writing mine. Good job.
DeleteWell worded Laura, good job!
DeleteI really don't think that hiring a security guard and paying him $10 an hour will help anything, it's not like he's going to put his life on the line for $10. Maybe if they like made people empty their bag before entering or a metal detector would be easier and more effective. I really don't understand how people could kill other people simply because of their religion.
ReplyDeleteI believe that trumps plan will not work. Why? Because lives will still be lost, theses security guards don’t assure that this will never happen again. And anti-semitism is still present today, for example of what happened in Pittsburg, the guy who killed the poor people wanted all Jews dead. This is so sad. Once again, trump’s idea will not work and unfortunately anti-semitism I still present today.
ReplyDeleteTo start off this blog, YES, antisemitism is still very present to this day. The guy that decided to murder those 11 innocent people in Pittsburgh identified as an semanticist, so clearly, it is still around. And no I do not think that Trump's idea to put security guards will work. I actually think that it will worsen the situation for a lot of people considering what he has done in the past. I simply think that security guards will give more antisemitism a sign that what they are doing is creating an impact and they should keep the chaos going. To end this blog, YES, antisemitism is very present and NO I do not believe that these guards will be of any help at all.
ReplyDeleteVery true that it is still around, I agree completely! Good blog!
DeleteThe U.S president’s recommendation to put security guards in front of all schools and places of worship will not accomplish anything. The notion that any issue will be resolved or that people will suddenly become safer by arming more people is completely ridiculous. This will not improve anything. Whenever a new tragedy arises involving guns, the american government’s reaction is never to reflect upon their actual gun regulations, but instead to solve the gun problem, with what you may ask? More guns. If the security guards are used simply as an intimidation tactic, culprits will definitely find ways around that small little obstacle. If anything, it would be more effective to make people empty their bags or go through metal detectors.
ReplyDeleteI do believe anti-semitism is still present today. If we take a look at the past event at the synagogue in Pittsburgh, for example, the shooter in question was specifically targeting those of the jewish faith. I find it horrible some people make judgements of groups based on something like their faith.
I totally agree with your blog. Well done!
Deletei also find it really stupid that the government is trying to give more people guns to resolve the problem of bad people having guns.
DeleteI feel like banning guns from the united states is pointless, because there will obviously be other ways for terrorists/insane people to try and kill other people. President Trump is risking other people's lives to help other people live.. I understand it'll be "much safer" if we put guards at every worship/school but in my opinion, it isn't doing much. Banning guns will just help more of the situation, no one will have guns and it'll help elevate the world. I honestly also don't understand why cruel people could just hate other people because of their religion, we're all human, we're made how we were, it could also possibly the parents who influence their children into hating religious people/people who have a different skin colour, etc.
ReplyDeleteObviously I think it is still present today. There will always be people who will protest certain peoples rights and their religions. I don't think the world will ever be at peace, unfortunately. Its acts like these that make me really wonder why the USA has that law still. Taking guns out of the hands of those who are troubled and violent is how we will solve this problem. Security guards can easily get shot, and now that's so many more people they have to pay, and they're risking their lives lives for what? For a problem that could've been saved a long time ago.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree it’s too easy for someone to buy a gun on the States. Great blog
DeleteI think Trump's statement is a long shot. I also hate how a gun violence happens, and we treat it with bringing more guns into the system. So not only teachers will have guns now, but there will be a thousands of security guards with them. I think it will be impossible to have a security guard out of every religious bulding in the US. There must be a minimum of 2 security guards at each bulding since the shifts are very long, who will risk there life for a job that will give you at most $15 dollars a hour. I mean his statement had good intentions but was unrealistic. I do still believe there are people in this world that are anti-semetic and this tragedy is an example of this. We live in a crazy world!
ReplyDeleteI agree with that Justin, and I hope that we can become better people.
DeleteI honestly think security guards are not the answer. Having security guards will not solve anything it will just be one more extra live gone. Also we can't have security guards everywhere it;s just so unrealistic to do and probably expensive. Even if we do have them in front of all places of worships and schools theres still lots of other places that can also be affected by guns that won't be protected. There obviously still is anti-semitism in 2018 and it's really sad.
ReplyDeleteAntisitism is still very present, nearly every week we see some act of terrorism or something of the sort. It is sad because somehow the United States don't recognize the fact that guns are the major cause of this problem. Antisemitism is still present but it has a very simple solutiin
ReplyDeleteThese kind of issues have become more and more persistent in the last few years. It’s terrible to think that racism and antisemitism still occur in today’s society. This devastating tragedy has taken loved ones away from there families. Terrible to think that something as innocent as going to mass can turn into a life changing event. I don’t think bodyguards are the answer to these problems. I think there should be stricter regulations on gun control. It is unacceptable that a man can simply walk into a synagogue and take the lives of 12 innocent people. (Sorry for the late blog)
ReplyDeleteputting safety guard in front of schools will be useless to protection. they will be underfunded and will acct more like mall cops than anything else. But if they hire real security guards school would be more like a lock down every day. it will put unnecessary fear into all the kid and parents. they will feel unprotected everywhere else they go and instead the terrorists will just target other places instead of schools.
ReplyDeletePutting in safety guard in front of schools and Will solve nothing, things like this happen most often based of Ignorance, the best way to stop these tragic events is by educating people of why these actions are so wrong and backwards aswell as explaining the dark history behind these actions to show the severity of these issues
